Artificial Intelligence is impacting almost every facet of the legal services sector. Chief among them is how AI is revolutionizing pricing.
Artificial Intelligence is impacting all areas of legal service business including pricing, which will be the focus on my remarks as a panelist for an upcoming Ontario Bar Association webinar.
April 30, 2026, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. (ET)
Business Case
Law firms that want to both survive and thrive must rethink how pricing services impacts client value.
This is because AI is causing law firms to adapt, adopt, and provide predictable pricing models that are no longer considered or called “alternative.” This includes providing value-based pricing, fixed fees, and subscription services rather than relying on the unpredictability of hourly rates that have been a legal industry standard forever.
Markets Case
Astute law firms refer to the overhaul of their financial structuring as “pricing models” rather than “billing models.” This is because they recognize that pricing comes first in the financial restructuring process and is client-oriented, while billing comes afterward and is firm-oriented.
Management Case
The crux of this panel discussion is that the rise of artificial intelligence has resulted in clients demanding better service, part-and-parcel of which are expectations of predictable, “no surprises” pricing.
Making changes by degrees is a critical feature of any successful restructuring. However, the challenge right now is that lawyers and law firms must adapt fast, and therefore, the all-important factors are decisiveness and taking action.
This webinar is produced by the Ontario Bar Association.
